[Well, there was worse company than his Ba. If anything, he could just steal the cupcakes and kick the kid out if he grew too annoying.

Bakura finally brings himself to his feet, opening the (admittedly unlocked) door and poking his head out.

...Just to make sure his Ba wasn't lying about the cup cakes.]

Is that them? [He points a finger at one, touching the icing.]

Un. The icing makes them sweeter, so if it's not to your taste, you can just scrape it off.

[He holds the box up, bowing his head in a polite gesture that could be mistaken for subservience. Did the guy really leave the door unlocked? What a careless gesture...]

[Way to be rude, Ryou, he didn't exactly know how to lock a modern door.

And he does take the gesture as one of submission, much to his own satisfaction. Soon after he grabs the box of cupcakes, contemplating just slamming the door back in Ryou's face one he's gotten it...but, eh. He was bored, and without the spirits of Kul Elna to hold his attention, he was getting lonely in the longer parts of the mundane days.]

Don't mind if I do, h-heh heh! [He heads back inside, sitting in his nest of bedsheets on the four mattresses gathered in the corner of the room.]

[Well, he wasn't told to leave, so he'll just follow him in, shutting the door behind him. He'd lock it, but... it's like being locked into a cage with a mostly-wild tiger. He'd rather have the option to run. The mattress fort surprises him, though.]

...wow.

[Well then. He runs a hand through his hair nervously before deciding to sit on the floor, just out of the thief's hand range.]

Uhm. [This was a bad idea, what is he doing...] I wanted to ask you something, if that's okay.

[Bakura sniffs curiously at the cupcakes a moment, licking the icing before sputtering and immediately deciding it's too damn sweet.

He scrapes the icing off into the box and bites into the cupcake without it, enjoying that well enough. Mmm!

...Oh yeah, his Ba said something, didn't he?]

Mmm? [chew chew chew]

[It's good that the thief king is distracted, because he's having second thoughts, third thoughts, looping back to first thoughts over and over again. His fingers tense against his legs as he mulls it over. How to say it, precisely? What to do, precisely? Ask it, or not? Leave, or go through with his questions?

In the end, he just blurts it out, not looking at the man directly.]

What is it that taints a soul with darkness?

[Bakura pauses, looking up at Ryou with cupcake crumbs sticking to his face.

He's utterly flat in his answer.] That's like asking why the fucking sun shines.

...uhm. Do you mean that it's obvious, or that it's impossible to know? I'm not sure what you know or believe about the sun...

It's obvious! [As soon as he barks out the words, he's chomping back into the next cupcake.]

...sorry. When it comes to soul stuff, I really have no idea.

[Sigh. Trust this guy to just be a jerk...]

I didn't think that it did. You don't seem to be the type that's driven by obligations... or by anything other than their own desires.

[Deep breaths, Ryou. Deep, deep breaths. He swallows back his nervousness and speaks.]

But you can be negotiated with. I'm sure of that much.

[Taking a break from the sweet food, Bakura leans back against his blanket-nest, relaxed and casual and seeing Ryou as a total none-threat. He was barely an entity at all! As long as his Ba didn't die, he didn't care much else...]

I can be negotiated with...but if you were thinking of using that food, it's a little too late!

No, the food was a gift.

[His fingers grew white against his jeans with the way he was gripping them. He should have stuck needles into the cupcakes or something! ...no, he can't do that. That would ruin delicious food.]

They're only desserts, so they're no good for negotiation materials.

Though I could offer to cook for you, I guess.

[A gift, huh? Well, it was certainly tasty... Bakura slumps further back into the sheets, uncaring in appearance despite having an actual interest in what his Ba was after.]

H-hah hah...I've already found somebody for that. Try again!

[He's actually relieved. Between Judai's regular visits for food and Malik's presence and occasionally making treats for Henry and Jack, he's kind of got his hands full on that front. But best not to show that. If there's one thing he'd picked up from Duelist Kingdom, it was this.

Never show your enemy your hand unless you're using your words as a weapon.]

Un. Then, what if I were to use the Ring's powers for something you wanted? That 'user restriction' isn't on me.

But since this is just one thing, it'd be only once.

What would I need the Ring's powers for here? It wouldn't be useful for me to only use it once.

[Still laying on his back, Bakura gestures boldly towards the ceiling with his hands.]

Besides, this island's small enough that I could just scour for anything--or anybody--I wanted with inevitable success!

But if you're trying to drive me into a corner, it's not that simple... I won't promise you unlimited uses just for something like this.

[He was definitely curious. His pure Ba that wouldn't even thieve wanted to know how to taint his soul. Maybe he had hope after all.]

[He wasn't meant to let the spirit know, and this guy was the spirit, in another form. Ugh... This is such a bad decision, he can practically taste it. Best to word it carefully.]

A man I know has been trying to teach me how to call upon the powers of darkness... without using the Ring. But with my soul in such a state, it's impossible. No matter how much I keep trying, it won't happen.

The powers of darkness? So you're finally taking an interest in your true potential, are you? And here I thought you were nothing but a "good boy" who was happy to let others walk all over him!!

[Bakura rolls forward to sit up, licking his lips in thought. He had no way of corrupting this boy's Ba, but he could corrupt his Ka and Akh...

Something much more powerful than him was needed to completely submit to the darkness, but he could at least get the ball rolling...]

If that's the case, I'll help you...but it won't be so easy as just giving you an answer. So my payment shouldn't be as easy as just giving me a single use of the Ring, don't you agree?
