[Reincarnations? Why would that be...

...Ohhhhhhh.]

I know that it's about a soul being born into another body later on after they die. Do you think that you're reincarnated from him?

I don't need to think it. I know it... That man... was me.

[His hands twist into the fabric viciously.]

I'm one third of his soul... and so is the spirit within the Ring. That why... he won't leave me alone.

[So that was it... Yugi tilts his head a little, blinking some. He doesn't seem angry, or even upset, just a little confused. It's bad news about the Ring, but...]

Ah, that's bad... but... why are you so upset, Ryou-kun?

I've been lying to myself all this time. "It's not my fault", "I can't do anything yet", "I didn't hurt them, so stop feeling bad". Things like that.

But...

All that suffering is from my hands. Even if I didn't choose to do it... he and I are the same person after all.

And that guy...

Once he figured it out, he said something frightening.

What are you talking about? You've never done anything bad at all. It was never lies, Ryou-kun... because you didn't do anything at all. You never hurt anyone.

[What could that frightening thing be... it must have been bad. But first thing's first.]

So what if that's what you were before? That's not what you are now. Ryou-kun is who Ryou-kun is! He's not a mean thief, or a bad person, and he's never hurt anyone at all!

Ryou-kun is my really dear friend, after all!

...Yugi...

[The name is spoken in a hushed whisper, almost an exclaimation of surprise. It takes more than words to remove guilt so deep-seated, but even so... for Yugi to say something like that soothes it, dulls the guilt and leaves him wanting nothing more than to just hug the other boy.

So he does, crying into his jacket like a frightened child.]

Yugi-kun, I'm sorry! I shouldn't be thinking things like this...

[Yugi seems surprised about that, but wraps his arms around Ryou after a moment, trying to hug him tightly and give him whatever comfort he can.]

It's okay, Ryou-kun. It's probably scary, isn't it? Mahad told me I was the Pharaoh he knew a long time ago... I thought it was kind of cool. But for someone mean like that... I can't really imagine how it feels.

But... just because they're a part of you doesn't mean that you're guilty! You'd only be guilty if you wanted to do and did it yourself, but you didn't. They're different from Ryou-kun, aren't they? They think differently and do things on their own.

If my other side was mean like yours... would you hate me for what he did?

[Sniff. He's bottled up this guilt for a long time now, and he can't seem to stop the tears even now. But they're almost tears of relief now.]

I've... always blamed myself for not being able to stop him. So finding out like this... just what sort of person I was back then... It's like all of my fears came to life all at once.

But... you're right... Even if that guy is 'me', he isn't me... [Sniff.]

[Yugi's hands awkwardly rest on top of Ryou's head, a shy sort of affection to try and help. His friend is hurting... but he told him, and Yugi smiles a little, trying to cheer him up even if he can't see it.]

Ryou-kun... is Ryou-kun. Bakura and the spirit... they aren't Ryou-kun. And Ryou-kun is my friend and always will be no matter what.

That's all there is to it.

Un! You're right, Yugi-kun.

[Drawing back, he rubs his eyes with the back of his hand, looking a little calmer.]

[That gentle smile doesn't so much as budge, Yugi reaching out to place his hand on Ryou's arm comfortingly.]

So, Ryou-kun... don't feel so sad, okay? We can go back to my dorm and play a game!

Un! I'd like that. I feel like I need something like that to distract me.

Let's go, then!

[Oof... it's a bit hard to get up, but Yugi manages it, smiling brightly even with the clear pained look on his face.]

[Ryou offers him his arm, scarred though it is.]

Need a hand?

That'd be great, Ryou-kun, thanks.

[Maybe he really should have asked Henry for the heal after all... even a small one would've helped, right?]

[With Ryou's help, it's probably at least a little easier for Yugi to walk. Though Ryou seems cheered up, there's still a current of fear inside of him. Who could tell the sort of thing that guy would find worthy of retaliating for? And he has to warn Henry too, when he sees him. This is all so weird.]

Uhm. Yugi-kun?

[Definitely easier, even with the height difference. It's better to have someone to actually lean on, after all, and the fact that he made Ryou feel even a little better has made Yugi feel good, too.]

I was just wondering why you were out and about in such a condition. It seems a little reckless.

Actually... I was looking for you. I wanted to play some games together, since we were working hard to get stronger and I like spending time with you... so I thought we could take a break.

Eh, really? I appreciate it. I've always got time for Yugi-kun, you know?

I'm really glad! I'd feel sad if I couldn't do things with Ryou-kun.

[Ah, there's the dorm. He knows Mahad and Pegasus are both out, so it should be pretty quiet for a while. Yugi sinks into the couch, blowing out a little again.]

Sorry, but can you grab the games from the room?

Un! No worries.

[Games, games... where did Yugi keep the games... He'll just bring them all over soon.]

[Yugi peers through the games, pulling out an Egyptian-themed version of Monopoly.]

That looks like a pretty interesting game. I've never seen a themed version like that before.

I found it in one of the rooms in the North Wing. I think it's only out around America! I saw it once or twice in my Grandpa's shop, but it wasn't a regular thing we ever stocked.
