[He grins a little wider, shaking his head in a cascade of white.]

[Henry laughs a little, playfully running his fingers through Ryou's hair after he finishes shaking it.]

It will, yes. Though I still hope you'll come back with me.

I'd really like to! I really hope it's possible.

[Ah, damn, that's soothing. He practically melts into Henry like that.]

Eheh.

I'll find a way to make it possible. Even if I have to stay here that much longer to do so, I will find some way.

[He doesn't mind at all, smiling at Ryou again.]

Perhaps it has something to do with what that woman said...

Huh...? 'That woman'?

[He raises his head slightly to look at Henry in confusion.]

The lady over the... what is it called? "Intercom?" I spoke with her and we're supposedly here to "learn" something. I suppose that fits, being a school as it is...

But what is it that we're supposed to "learn"? Perhaps that is the puzzle.

To learn something...

[Ryou's voice is thoughtful. He lapses into silence for a moment before he continues.]

Yeah, that's what they call it. It's short for "intercommunication device". Most schools have them.

But that makes sense, in a way. It may be reading too much into it, but maybe we were pulled here because something was 'missing' that she wanted us to figure out. If that was the case, it might explain why people can come back from the dead, too. Because otherwise, we'd never get the chance.

But this place has been here for a long time. Everywhere on this island has been scoured and as strange as the North Wing is, it seems constantly shifting with little or nothing in the way of clues in it.

So what is it that we're supposed to learn?

[fluffydeathdealer]

Maybe it's not something to do with this place. Maybe she wants us to learn something about us. Like a workshop. People are inherently flawed, after all. Maybe she's testing us to see if conflicting natures can coexist without killing one another. Or maybe she's trying to see if we can figure out how to get out.

Who knows?

I think we've already hurt our case on that first part. [He says that a bit bitterly. He still really doesn't like Malik.] As for the second... that's a possibility too. I suppose we won't know for certain until someone learns what it is she wants them to learn...

[fluffydeathdealer]

You can tell you've never been to school before... [It's not disparaging. It's just an observation. He's reluctant to say it, but...]

At school they make you just keep doing things over and over until they work out right. So it's possible that even if we 'hurt our cases' over and over... it'll not stop until everyone here learns their lesson.

But that's just a theory. It could just be a game they're playing, even.

I suppose that is true enough.

[Hmm. Henry leans on Ryou some, thoughtfully.]

A "game" has some sort of rules, a victory condition, and a loss condition. If this is a game and we haven't been informed, it might be that we aren't more than pieces. And if that's the case, then there's little we can do about it then...

[Sigh. He reaches up a hand to rub his head.]

England wasn't simple, but it was at least understandable.

But if that's the case, then we're pieces with free will. Which means we can throw off the game and break out of it.

[Ryou has enough experience with this to sound deadly serious.]

[That's a good point and he nods a little.]

True enough. It's just a matter of figuring out how to do such a thing.

[fluffydeathdealer]

Don't worry. If it is a game, I'm sure we can break out of it if we work hard enough.

[His hand rests against the other, fingers pressing against the mark on his left palm. Yes... they can break out of it. He's sure.]

It's just a matter of time, patience, hope, and work, then, is it?

[Henry sounds a bit amused, but there's seriousness to it as well. Could it be that simple?]

I've been a playing piece before. The most important thing is to keep your determination up. Even if it seems hopeless, there'll be a way. You just have to keep your faith in yourself and your allies, no matter what...and never, ever accept failure. Acknowledge it, but keep going despite it.

[...just who's the parent here right now?]

With a strong enough will and close enough friends to rely on and support in turn, you can create a miracle.

You sound more like you're my father instead of my son.

[That's a good question. Henry doesn't mind it at all, though, smiling softly and resting his head on Ryou's again.]

And there's no shortage of friends or will for either of us.

Now, now... I've just learnt a lot about breaking away from being a chess piece.

[He pats Henry's shoulder soothingly.]

Un! You're right. So we'll definitely get out of here eventually.

[He laughs a little at that, wrapping his arms warmly around Ryou again. Even despite the chill and awkward seat, this is one of the most comfortable positions he's been in.]

And even if it takes a while... well, I still have to find a way to give that Spirit his own body.

[Henry is warm enough that he's keeping him at a comfortable temperature. Ryou feels a lot more relaxed than he has for a while... though that thought is still a little unnerving.]

That sounds like something next to impossible... Maybe if you were an alchemist or something.

Difficult and likely hard, but I don't think impossible.

[Wait. Alchemy?]

...An alchemical touch... perhaps the Charmers, then...?

[You've got him thinking, Ryou, and Henry's staring off at the water again. It wouldn't be simple, but could it really be that he was overlooking something like that?]

[He looks over at the ocean, thoughtfully.]

If you think about it, alchemy is tied pretty deeply into the concept of immortality. Some people even say alchemists could create what was called a homunculous, or a living body to transfer life into.

[A soft laugh.]

But I only know what people talk about in stories.

[helpusduelist]

Still, if that's a possibility, I can't discount it. I'll have to talk with them some later and see what they know about that, if anything.

Un, that's a good idea. They might have some ideas about what to do with him anyway.
